1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups hot water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar and 1/2 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
Carefully pour the 2 cups of hot water over the entire cobbler. Do not stir.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and the sauce is bubbly.
Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
