These chocolate snowball cookies are a delightful and easy-to-make treat. They are rich, fudgy, and coated in powdered sugar, resembling snowballs. Perfect for holidays or any time you crave a sweet, chocolatey bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped nuts, if using.
  7. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  9. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes.
  10. While still warm, roll the cookies in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  11. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack. Roll them in powdered sugar a second time for a thicker coating, if desired.

Notes

  • Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy creaming.
  • Do not overmix the dough, as this can make the cookies tough.
  • For extra chocolate flavor, you can add 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips to the dough.
  • Store these cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • These cookies also freeze well for up to 3 months.
