A creamy and smooth caramel custard dessert with a rich caramel topping.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp alcohol-free vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown, then pour into a baking dish to coat the bottom.
  3. Blend eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour mixture over caramelized sugar in the baking dish.
  5. Place dish in a larger pan and fill the outer pan with hot water halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes until set. Let cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  7. Invert onto a plate before serving.

Notes

  • Use a kitchen towel to handle the hot baking dish.
  • For a smoother texture, strain the custard mixture before baking.
  • Chilling overnight enhances flavor.
