Flaky buttery croissants are a classic French pastry with a crisp, golden exterior and soft, layered interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups cold unsalted butter
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a bowl.
  2. Gradually add cold milk and knead into a dough.
  3. Roll out the dough and layer with cold butter, folding multiple times.
  4. Chill the dough for 30 minutes between folds.
  5. Shape into croissants and let them rise for 1-2 hours.
  6. Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes until golden.

Notes

  • Keep butter cold for flaky layers.
  • Allow proper rising time for the best texture.
  • Use a sharp knife for clean cuts.
